Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven collapsed as they took on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United at St. James’s Park in the Champions league this Wednesday. Peter Bosz’s side gave away two goals in the first half, neatly wrapped with a bow on top. Newcastle punished the Dutch sides clumsiness with goals from Yoane Wissa and Anthony Gordon.
Clumsy, is all you can say about PSV Eindhoven’s European trip to St’ James’s Park in the Champions League this week. The first two goals were practically given away as in both cases the PSV defense capitulated under pressure with sloppy passes straight into the feet of the home sides attackers who punished them ruthlessly.
With not even 10 minutes on the PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar crumbled under the Newcastle pressure. The Czech rushed his pass into the feet of Bruno Guimarães who sent it deep to Joelinton who squared it off to Yoana Wissa who finished calmly. Then at the half our mark PSV Wissa pounced again, this time picking Yarek Gasiorowski’s pocket, as the Spanish defender miscommunicated with his goalie, serving it on a platter for Anthony Gordon who tapped it into an empty net. Then with over an hour played the visitors stumble again. A Dennis Man header lands at the feet of Harvey Barnes. The winger picks it up dances around Yarek, and drills it into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the area making it 3-0.
On the other end of the field PSV looked toothless. The hosts seemed to keep them at bay, forcing shots from outside the box and crosses from akward angels which were easily blocked. They now find themselves in 22nd unable to afford losing points next in week in the final matchday of the leauge phase as they host Vincent Kompany’s Bayern München. The Magpies will travel to Paris where they will take on defending champions PSG.
Peter Bosz Future
Contract negotiations with the Dutchman at the helm of PSV seem to have stalled. The club has reportedly made their final offer to Bosz who’s contract will end this summer. News has however broken that he is in consideration to be the successor to Ronald Koeman after the World Cup this summer. Bosz’ is highly regarded at the KNVB.
