The inside scoop, working as a photographer at the Bernabéau: Real Madrid 4 -0 Valencia

Last Saturday on the first of November I was privileged enough to work at the Bernabéau as a photographer for the Real Madrid – FC Valencia match. In this post I will share my experience and show you some of the treasures I took home.

Having some experience as an amateur photographer this chance blew my mind. I wouldn’t categorise myself as a photographer, I’m more of a hobbyist. My interest in photography and videography has always existed but due to a busy schedule including a full-time Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, working nights to pay the bills and wanting to try and maintain a social life; I never seemed to find enough time to use the overly expensive camera I had bought with my first pay check when I was 16. As the flow of fans entered the Bernabéau and seats were being filled. The atmosphere in the stadium was incredible. As the players were warming up shouts could be heard from everywhere – young fans, screaming at the top of their lungs, trying to catch their attention. It was an absolute dream come true.

I must admit that following the match, whilst also trying to take that one in a million picture is difficult. Following the game from the stands – compared to watching it from home, is always a completely different experience. One which I can recommend to any football fan out there. Go to matches, watch and experience games first hand, show your support, even to your local team. But sitting pitch-side with a camera in your hands is an entirely different monster. It took some getting used to but in the end I was able to take some amazing pictures.

The match ended 4-0 to Real Madrid and the score was well deserved. The score could have been even greater. It slowed down in the second half after Xabi Alonso’s men were already 3-0 up. Furthermore, Vinicius Junior was unable to ocnvert a penalty in the first half won by left-back Alvaro Carreras.

Madrid seem te be in great form. They’re next challenge will be a visit te Arne Slot’s Liverpool at Anfield. But going on form los Blancos are the heavy favourites having only lost 1 game of 14 this season – whilst Liverpool lost 6 in their previous 7 in the Premier League.
